The Henson Robinson Zoo has reopened after Monday’s storm forced it to close.
Strong winds brought downed several trees damaging fencing, exhibits, and power lines. Marketing Manager Kim Alexander says most of all the damage is clear, and things are beginning to run as normal. No animals were hurt, and Alexander says that’s because the Zoo has an emergency disaster plan for the animals.
“If we we’re to get warnings like what we had the other day, we would bring all the animals indoors that have indoor areas it’s the safest place for them inside the building. So they bring all the animals in, and then they would bring all the visitors that might be out on the grounds into buildings as well,” says Alexander
The Henson Robinson Zoo will resume regular operating hours of Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
