It’s the giving season.
Mayor Mike Houston issued a proclamation on Monday stating this Tuesday would be a day of giving in the local community. At the press conference at the Early Learning Center, Houston voiced his support for United Way of Central Illinois’ Community Child Care Connection and several local preschools.
Jarid Brown, of United Way of Central Illinois, says Giving Tuesday kicks off the holiday giving season. He stressed the importance of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which he says is an early childhood literacy program for kids under five years of age in Sangamon County.
“United Way and Community Child Care Connection, along with several local preschools, are teaming up to raise funds for Dolly Parton Imagination Library. That is our early childhoold literacy program, which provides a free book each and every month for children under the age of five in Sangamon County.”
Brown says as much as 30% of donations nationwide come in during the November and December months. HE says it’s important to remember giving during the entire year.
Also in attendance at the press conference were Sarah Graham of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Superintendent Bob Leming.
