Former State Rep. Pleads Guilty to Mail Fraud

Former State Representative Connie Howard has pleaded guilty to mail fraud.

Howard made the plea in federal court in Springfield, admitting to misusing charitable funds between 2003 and 2007. She raised nearly $77,000 through her “Tee-Off For Technology” non-profit organization.

The money was supposed to go toward scholarships, but she admits only $12,000 went to scholarships and as much as $28,000 went to her campaign and personal use.

Prosecutors say they will recommend a six-month prison sentence. She’s set to be sentenced in November.
