Former State Legislative Aide Faces Fraud Charges

A former legislative aide to an Illinois State Representative is facing charges related to 1.2 million dollar grant awarded in 2007.

Fifty-two year old Lloyd Kelly, is scheduled to appear in federal court in Springfield next week related to an indictment on mail fraud. Kelly is charged with a single count of mail fraud.

Prosecutors allege that Kelly spent thousands of dollars from an AIDS awareness grant on personal expenses like a house, tickets to a football game, and paying wages for work performed for the State Rep. If convicted, the statutory penalty for the offense of mail fraud is up to 20 years in prison and fines up to 250 thousand dollars.
