About three dozen people held informational pickets outside two fast food restuarants in Springield Thursday. Some workers from McDonalds and Wendy’s joined community activists and union representatives calling for a hike in the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Ebony Harper, a McDonalds worker on North Dirksen in Springfield says the current minimum wage of $8.25 an hour is not enough to raise her family. “I’m a single mom trying trying to raise four kids on minimum wage and think we deserve more.”
Fast food workers have been holding similar events throughout the country over the last few days.
