The Egyptian military is announcing it is now in control of Egypt. The move comes after the expiration of a deadline for Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi to come to a power-sharing agreement with opponents. In a statement, an Egyptian general said the country’s government disregarded calls for national reconciliation for months.
In a statement, the military said it will outline a “roadmap to democracy.” The country’s constitution has been suspended, and the chief justice of the constitutional court will take over in the interim.
