Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s office will check for compliance with disability parking regulations Sunday at Chicagoland Motor Speedway in Joliet.
White’s office says secretary of state police will conduct compliance checkpoints to crack down on the misuse and abuse of disability placards and license plates.
The checks take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Secretary of state officials say it is against the law to use a placard without the authorized holder in the vehicle or to alter or create a fraudulent placard.
Unauthorized parking in a space reserved for disabled motorists carries a minimum fine of $250. Parking a car with a placard or disabled license plate in such a spot without the authorized user in the car brings a mandatory fine of $250.
