U.S. Congressman Rodney Davis is reacting to the news he will be running against a former beauty pageant winner.
Davis says it’s sad but not surprising that he’s being challenged in next year’s Republican primary by former Miss America Erika Harold, a Champaign attorney. He added that voters are tired of the constant campaigning and says he’s trying to focus on issues in Washington.
Since losing a bid to be appointed to the ballot by party leaders, Harold has moved from Chicago to central Illinois and kicked off a high-profile campaign touting her profile as an African-American, Harvard educated conservative.
Former Madison County judge Ann Callis has announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination in the 13th Congressional District.
