Davidsmeyer: Tax Increase Will Continue

Some Illinois Republicans say there’s no way the state will be able to roll back part of the increased income tax rate in January 2015, when it’s supposed to partially sunset.

Jacksonville Representative C. D. Davidsmeyer says the extra money from the income tax hike is helping cut the state’s debt, but not at the rate expected.  The backlog was about seven billion when the tax hike took effect two years ago, and come August this year, the backlog will be about the same.

Davidsmeyer says Democrats are spending more money than the state can afford, he points to the fact that the budget for next year spends two billion dollars more than the state is spending this year.
