Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross has stepped down from his leadership position.
Cross has been toying with the idea of running for treasurer for some time, though he’s not prepared to make an official announcement. He says that will come in a couple of weeks.
State Rep. Raymond Poe (R-Springfield) has indicated his interest in the leadership position in the past, and Wednesday renewed that interest in a written statement.
“I know we have the talent and the ability to build the House Republican Caucus into a strong voice for the hard-working taxpayers of this great state,” said Poe. “I believe the future is bright, both for our caucus and for this state. Together, we can accomplish great things for the people of Illinois.”
Poe had nothing but praise for Cross in his letter, noting the two have not always agreed.
