Corn Harvest Still Slow
Corn Harvest Still Slow

We’re into November, and there’s still some corn left to harvest.

Corn is 83 percent harvested, up 9 points from last week, according to the weekly USDA crop progress report. Crop statistician Mark Schleusener says in some cases, farmers have left corn un-harvested because they want it to lose some moisture before they take it to the elevator.

“If there’s another factor besides that, it would be that some producers are large enough that it’s just hard to get it all done. They may also be shifting over to soybeans, which have reached 92 percent complete harvest because they’re a little bit more fragile. A good wind storm can shatter the pods and put the beans on the ground,” he said.

Winter wheat is now 95 percent planted and 75 percent emerged.
