Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell says he will not accept a little know financial windfall if he is elected Sheriff. Currently all county sheriffs in the state except Cook County receive an annual stipend of $6500 in addition to their annual salary
“I understand it’s the proverbial drop in the bucket. But if you look across the state at all the schools, nursing homes and not-for-profits, (that money) may keep those places open for another week or month,” told reporters Thursday.
Campbell says he is not sure what the reason for the stipend is and says it was placed on the books by the state years ago. The Sangamon County Sheriff is paid $114,000 a year. He says is researching whether he can redirect the money to a local charity.
