Brief Terrorism Scare at DCFS

A brief scare at the Department of Children and Family Services building in downtown Springfield turned out to be a false alarm.

Crews responded to the building on east Monroe shortly after 2:00 this (Monday) afternoon after employees found a powdery substance inside a letter addressed to the department’s director. Springfield Fire Department Division Chief Mark Hart says crews tested the substance on site and didn’t return any toxic results.

Hart says he doesn’t know what the powder was.
