Game on…not only are high schools competing on the gridiron this fall, they are also competing for blood donations. The Central Illinois Community Blood Center kicked off its 13th Annual Blood Challenge between area high schools. The schools are competing for $1000 scholarships to be given to the top four schools.
Tara Matheson, Director of Donor Relations for the Blood Center, says at least 25-percent of donations the blood center receives each year comes from this challenge.
“I look forward to the Challenge because each year, we see young people actively involved in the community; helping to save the lives of patients by donating blood” Matheson says
Last year, the challenge resulted in more than 12,000 donations. Matheson says she hopes this year’s challenge, sponsored by Springfield Clinic, exceeds that amount.
