Auburn Could Soon Expand Liquor Purchasing Hours
Auburn Could Soon Expand Liquor Purchasing Hours

Liquor purchases might soon be allowed on Sundays in the city of Auburn.

Right now, citizens are allowed to purchase alcohol Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. but not at all on Sundays. Alderman Tom Berola believes the city is losing business to neighboring communities like Chatham and Springfield. He says it’s an even bigger hit when the holidays hit.

Berola mentioned the loss which occured earler this year on Super Bowl Sunday. Now he wants action in time for the upcoming Fourth of July Weekend. He said it’s a big time for familes and friends to get out and purchase food and drinks for the festivities.

The amendment to the city code would extend the weekly hours through Sunday. If final action is taken in early July, the new law would go into effect immediately, just in time for the Fourth weekend.
