Sangamon County Sheriff Neil Williamson is looking for advice, and where better to find it than from other long-time law enforecement officials. Williamson has formed what he calls the “Statesmen of Law Enforcement” with the goal to provide another perspective to issues facing the sheriff’s department.
“They can give us a opinions on different areas of law enforcement. So much has changed since 9/11 and we don’t pretend to have all the answers” says Williamson.
Williamson says, as far as he knows, this group is one-of-its kind in the state if not the nation. He says the group is comprised of retired command-level law enforcement professionals from federal, state, and local levels and will not be crafting policy.
