Alderman: Schools Need to Make the Case Before Thinking About Tax Hike

There is not a lot of initial support for a hike in either the sales tax or property taxes to provide more money for District 186, at least as far as one alderman is concerned.¬† Springfield Alderman Frank Edwards says it isn’t enough to tell voters more money is needed, he says voters deserve to know why and where it will be spent.

“A lot questions need to be asked, a lot of plans need to be laid out before that discussion even¬†starts” says Edwards.

A grass-roots group is floating the idea that taxes should be raised for the public schools, in part because there has not been a large rise in standardized test scores.
