A Springfield Man Is In Custody For What Could Have Become an Armed Robbery

Springfield Police have a man is in custody for what they believe was an attempted armed robbery early Tuesday morning.

Witnesses told police Joseph Davenport, 21, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, toting a black bag and handgun crouched behind a dumpster near the Family Video and Little Caesars Pizza on West Jefferson.

A store clerk called police where they located Davenport and the vehicle. Davenport tossed the weapon out the window and fled from police on foot. He was captured and is in custody for possession of a weapon by a felon, resisting/obstructing justice, and not having a FOID card.
