Gas Prices Are Down

Gasoline is at its cheapest price of the year in Illinois.
The statewide average is $3.26, down five cents from November, and 22 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
Not only is this the lowest price all year, but it’s lower than the price in 20 states, and that’s odd, since the Illinois price is usually among the highest, says Triple-A spokesman Beth Mosher. “It is unusual for us, but I’m sure that our motorists will enjoy it and take full advantage of it,” she said.
The reason the price is down is simply that demand is low at this time of year, the price of crude oil is falling and there are no supply problems here. The state’s cheapest gas is in the Decatur area, where the average is $3.06.
