A University of Illinois physicist has joined next year’s race for the state’s 13th Congressional District seat.
George Gollin announced Tuesday at the Champaign County fair that he’s joining the race because the country needs new leaders in Congress.
The 60-year-old Democrat said Congress is no longer a place where people work together. He said he would like to restore a spirit of compromise and problem-solving. Gollin joins Ann Callis, a retired judge from Edwardsville, in the Democratic field.
Congressman Rodney Davis is the incumbent. The Taylorville Republican faces a challenge from attorney and former Miss America Erika Harold of Urbana.
