Springfield Police check sex-offenders' addresses

On Monday, Springfield Police took part in "Operation Verify" - visiting the registered addresses of sex offenders to see if they were in fact living where they said they said they were.

140 addresses were checked. 76 were compliant. 36 offenders were not home and a door hanger was left. 14 were non-compliant, and 14 were too close to schools or parks and were issued a 30-day notice to move from the property.

Further investigation will be completed on the 14 non-compliant offenders. The SPD will then work with the States Attorney office to prosecute those who remain out of compliance.
