The Sangamon County Farm Bureau is calling on its members to put pressure on Congress to pass a Farm Bill before the end of the calendar year.
Director Jim Birge says this is the time when Illinois farmers should be planning for next year -- and they can't due to the uncertainty.
Birge says the new bill should be five years long and address, among other things, enhanced crop insurance. He also wants more oversight to make sure money for food and nutrition programs is being used properly.
He hopes lawmakers address it in their upcoming Lame Duck session.
