Sangamon Co. Dems Confident Moving Forward

Sangamon County Democrats didn't fare well in local races Tuesday, and the county is still reliably red -- but the county's party chairman is confident the Dems made strides this election season.

Doris Turner, who also serves as Springfield's Ward 3 Alderman, says party building efforts this season were successful -- including more volunteerism and enhanced Get Out the Vote efforts.

Turner says a turnout of more than 400 election day volunteers was the most she's seen. And, despite the county maintaining its solid red political leanings after Tuesday's election, she says a Democrat now represents part of Springfield for the first time in more than 20 years in the state House -- and in the state Senate for the first time in more than 100 years.
