SMTD to Offer "Park 'N Ride" Service

Springfield Mass Transit District Director Frank Squires says the service will soon implement a Park 'N Ride system, similar to those seen in big cities.

He says those larger cities have used the system with some success, and thinks there are many reasons people in Springfield will be interested.

"Gasoline, again, is on the rise," says Squires. "Some people are very environmentally conscious, and this helps the environment. Other people... the parking downtown. To not have to pay for a place or... it's just inconvenient."

Riders will be able to park at the Sangamon County Department of Public Health building on South Grand Ave. East beginning November 1, and take the bus downtown.
