(Reuters) - Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will not return for the 2013 Major League Baseball season after leading the club to the worst record in the American League East division, the team said on Thursday.

Valentine, 62, who was brought in last December to pump life into a Red Sox team that missed the 2011 playoffs, led the team to a 69-93 record, 21 fewer wins than last season.
