Illinois is no Silicon Valley. But according to a new study, it’s not even Wichita, Kansas!
A report from the Illinois Technology Partnership and the Digital Policy Institute says the state’s leadership in technology continues on the way down. Lindsay Mosher, executive director of the Illinois Technology Partnership, says the points include: fewer high school students interested in technology-related classes and careers; fewer available talented people living in or staying in the state; and stagnant research funding.
“Only 28 percent of our entrepreneurs who graduate from Illinois universities choose to stay in Illinois,” says Mosher, noting the presence of a world-class engineering school right here. “The University of Illinois is doing such a great job educating our students in many cases, and then they’re finding Illinois an unsuitable place to start their businesses, and they’re leaving.”
