A Galena man is waging a campaign to see the federal government's business conducted in public.
Bill Fawell, 58, a real estate developer with politicians in his family, is author of New American Revolution: The Constitutional Overthrow of the United States Government. He's urging registered voters to "light a candle for liberty" tonight (Monday) from 7-8 p.m.
His problem is that Congress has pushed its duties onto boards, commissions, administrative agencies and private entities that don't debate in public. He says he understands Congress can't debate every detail of government, but public matters shouldn't be kept secret.
"If you do have a situation where they (Congress) need help, they can farm something out. That' called the "Necessary and Proper" clause. But if they do assign that power to someone, it's only proper that they maintain it in the public forum," he said.

He's particularly concerned that the Federal Reserve and the market regulators are overseen by investment bankers.
He's asking candidates for Congress to pledge to keep debate public. So far none from Illinois are on his list at www.ElectaNewCongress.com.
