NewsRadio WTAX has adopted First Book-Greater Springfield. Morning Newswatch's Bob Murray believes every child should have a chance to have a book to read and started the WTAX Gift of Reading in November of 2008. First Book-Greater Springfield started its chapter around that time as well. We have now partnered on "Gift of Reading" plus many of the other projects First Book works on throughout the year.
First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, the Parent Organization of First Book-Springfield has distributed over 65 million free and low-cost books to children in thousands of communities.
Local chairs, Heather Winkler and Noel Scott are always looking for organizations that would like books. There is an application to fill out and you can do that by emailing.
