Fatal accident on Illinois Route 78



An early morning accident took the life of an Ashland resident. The two vehicle crash occurred at 1:37 Sunday morning on Illinois Route 78, just north of the city of Virginia. According to an Illinois State Police report, a 25 year old Ashland man was traveling southbound when the pickup he was driving crossed the center line, crashing head-on into a northbound vehicle.  The occupants of the northbound vehicle, James and Kelly Lascelles of Ipava, Illinois, were extracted by the Virginia Fire Department and transported to Memorial hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Ashland man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cass County coroner's office. The crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
