Despite opposition, city council okays rezoning of Griffin Woods

Schnucks plans to purchase land at the corner of Washington and Bruns Lane is on track.

The city council has Ok'd re-zoning for the area known as Griffin Woods, against the wishes of several who spoke in opposition to the plan.

Jason Daley grew up near Griffin Woods and says its not everyday you can find an oak grove with 350-year-old trees. Daley hopes the Springfield Park District will still exercise its option to purchase some of Griffin Woods for a parkspace.

Aldermen voted 8-2 to approve the zoning, with Ward 5's Sam Cahnman and Ward 7's Joe McMenamin voting NO.
