NEW YORK (Reuters) - Miguel Cabrera was named on Thursday as the American League's Most Valuable Player for the 2012 Major League Baseball season.

During the season, the Detroit Tigers third baseman batted .330 and hit 44 home runs and 139 RBIs to become the first player in 45 years to win the coveted Triple Crown.
